This is my favourite tea for creating new blends for myself and for gifts. I use it to make a chai tea blend, using dried cinnamon, cardamom and cloves. Level Ground is one of my favourite companies for their ethical considerations. They have a wide selection including their own chai tea blend and a great green tea as well.

Description
Nine small-scale tea growers in Assam, India are growing tea organically and processing their own tea and their garden sites. The growers process tea by hand, and dry in small facilities in each tea garden. Each tea garden employs between 5 and 20 labourers. Premiums for tea go entirely to the labourers, and during an open meeting they determine how the premium is used. Historically, premiums have gone towards water filtration for each home and piglets to raise and sell for profit. Orthodox black tea is made by withering fresh tea leaves, rolling the leaves and then drying the tea. Assam black tea has a malty flavour that can be enjoyed clear or with milk and sugar.
It all started in 1997 …
Four families came together with a mission to trade fairly and directly with small-scale farmers in developing countries. The same four families still own the company, and have grown to import the annual harvest of 5,000 farmers from 10 countries in South America, East Africa and South Asia. Level Ground is a Fair Trade Organization and direct importer of coffee, tea, dried fruit, cane sugar, heirloom rice, cacao nibs, vanilla beans, coconut oil and spices. At home in Victoria, B.C., Level Ground sends nothing to landfill, pays staff to bicycle to work and reclaims their packaging for recycling and composting!
Direct Fair Trade Tea
Direct Fair Trade means we travel to India, meet directly with the farmers, and pay them a fair price for their tea. What happens when you pay the best price? They save the best tea for you!
